CVD Process Engineer
Position Summary:
Position to focus on coatings applied to the surface of machined graphite parts but may also include carbon composite and/or other carbon-based materials. This position is responsible for chemical vapor deposition processes in industrial scale reactors, include low pressure, atmospheric, inductively heated, and resistively heated reactor designs. Activities will revolve around production support on process upsets, product quality assessments and efficiency improvement projects. This role will support production in establishing procedures to ensure stable and safe operation with consistent product quality. Involvement in areas other than coating will be required to fully understand and complete overall job responsibilities (VOG, Graphitization, Machining, Quality/Inspection, etc.).
Your Opportunity:
- Meet customer quality and performance expectations through process consistency
- Identify opportunities for scrap (COPQ) reduction and process efficiency improvements
- Develop and manage work package timelines and budgets to find product performance improvements
- Develop and define processes and procedures to establish a capable coating process for existing and new product designs
- Support operation of the CVD department concerning process engineering activities, i.e., work inresponse to specific quality issues or for process optimization such as reduce scrap/lower cost
- Provide process/equipment analysis and data collection supporting COPQ events
- Establish effective metrology systems to properly control key product quality metrics
- Utilize measurement system analyses to assess metrology capability against required tolerances
- Implement and control effective SPC charting for key product metrics
- Define OCAPs (out of control action plans) for process failures to facilitate operation team's reponse
- Lead and participate in SPS (Structured Problem Solving) activities to identify root causes for product and process failure events utilizing 5-why, 8D, Fishbone, C&E matrix and other tools
- Support Six-Sigma and continuous improvement activities across the site
Your Profile:
- BS degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline
- Exeperience in CVD/CVI, MOCVD, LED, Epitaxial processing preferred
- Experience with graphite and general ceramic materials preferred
- Experience with industrial thermal processing reactors
- Experience working in either a production or R&D environment preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel: formulas, macros, VBA coding and data analysis is preferred
- Ability to apply statistical methodology to establish process capability
- Advanced problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with materials characterization and physical property testing
- Knowledge of industrial scale thermal chemical reactors
