Elementary School Science Teacher

Westchester Day School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Elementary School Science Teacher (K-6) to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will inspire young students and foster a love for science through engaging, hands-on lessons and activities. Candidates should be experienced individuals who are well-versed in current teaching pedagogy and demonstrate a passion for elementary school education. This position reports to the Principal.

Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive science curriculum for elementary students that aligns with state and national standards.
  • Create and deliver engaging lesson plans that incorporate hands-on experiments, interactive activities, and real-world applications.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods and instructional materials to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Work as part of a cooperative and diverse team of educators and administrators to carry out the mission of Westchester Day School
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through assignments, tests, and observations, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and curiosity.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, staff, and administration to support student learning and school initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to discuss student progress and address any concerns.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in science education.
  • Organize and supervise extracurricular science activities, such as STEM day, science fairs or clubs.
  • Adhere to administration policies and rules


Qualifications:

  • State teaching certification in elementary education, special education, or science education.
  • Previous teaching experience at the elementary level is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of science content and effective teaching strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create a stimulating learning environment and engage young learners.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and collaboration.


Salary range for this role is $60,000- $80,000, depending upon education and experience.
