Job Purpose/Overview

The Mechanical Engineer I is a critical member of the Analyzer R&D Engineering team focused on Antech’s in-house diagnostics (point-of-care) platforms. This hands-on role will be support manufacturing engineering and optimization of repairs and servicing of Antech’s on-market analyzers. Initial focus is on the Element i+ immunoassay platform with growth into design and support of a portfolio of diagnostic analyzers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own the engineering responsibilities for repair and maintenance of analyzers, providing direct support to Antech’s analyzer service and repairs department.
  • Collaborate with engineers and manufacturing staff, identifying ways to improve assembly processes, and applying troubleshooting techniques to resolve any mechanical, electro-mechanical, thermal, or optical issues.
  • Build, test, and repair mechanical, electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical assemblies.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze issues related to Analyzer operation and performance.
  • Read, understand, and follow detailed work instructions, processes, and procedures related to assemblies and repairs.
  • Write detailed work instructions for Analyzer assembly and repair. Create and update documentation for assembly and repair.
  • Accurately describe and document all repairs performed on Analyzers.
  • Assist with inventory management.
  • Work independently and with other team members.
  • Work with internal and external customers to help resolve Analyzer related problems.
  • Maintain equipment, tooling, and related facility items as needed.
  • Use statistical analysis spreadsheets to monitor data driven by repairs and manufacturing.
  • Follow all safety rules and protocols.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


Education and Experience

  • AAS or BS degree in mechanical engineering or related field experience.
  • Zero to Three (0-3) years prior experience in a design, manufacturing, or production environment. School lab or internship experience will be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate and present technical information to technical and non-technical staff.
  • Prior experience with data gathering analysis and interpretation.


Software use and knowledge:

  • Windows, MS Office products, SolidWorks and PDM (or similar), and Custom.
  • Well organized and able to balance multiple demands and priorities.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with hand tools, jigs and fixtures, clamps, heat guns, soldering irons, epoxies, vacuum pumps, multi-meters, saws, grinders, power tools, etc.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate in problem solving.
  • Experience with laser use and safety requirements preferred.
  • Prior experience in a regulated environment (FDA, ISO, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience with Document Control systems and requirements preferred.


Working Conditions

The associate is regularly required to apply manual dexterity, including hand/wrist flexibility, for computer keyboarding. The associate frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The associate is frequently required to hear and speak in order to use the telephone, make presentations and communicate with people in an office environment. The associate is occasionally required to sit and stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.


The associate will primarily work in a typical office environment including the use of cubicles, computers and overhead lighting. Temperature extremes will be minimal to nonexistent. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The associate will be required to use a computer, spreadsheets, database management, email, Microsoft Office products, and the Internet. The associate is frequently required to use a calculator; fax, copy machine, and phone system.


The Target Pay Range for this position is $63,140 - $78,000 annually. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.
