General Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for new product designs, including conceptualizing, communicating ideas with marketing, prototyping ideas, integrating new technologies into new products, designing, detailing, and developing documentation, test requirements, and analysis to take a product from idea through production commercialization.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

  • Researching and analyzing data such as industrial designs and specifications to determine technology, technical feasibility, and delivery of product within time and cost constraints.
  • With some direction from management, performing mechanical engineering and design duties for new products, from concept to production of product.
  • Creating imaginative, thorough, and practical solutions to a wide range of difficult and sometimes complex mechanical problems.
  • Design and detail new products in 3D CAD (Solidworks) with some oversight from management.
  • Accurately setting schedules for projects, identifying project risks, and generating alternatives and recommendations to remove risk.
  • Working on assigned products (design, structural analysis, testing, and sustaining).
  • Focusing on quality deliverables with high accountability and commitment to product objectives.
  • Collaborating with diverse engineering and disciplines to specify, design, document, and deliver cost-effective, high-quality products to manufacturing.
  • Work closely with procurement, suppliers, and manufacturing during all phase of development to optimize design for cost, performance, manufacturability, service, and reliability.
  • Perform stress analysis, to ensure design has satisfactory safety factors in ultimate, yield and fatigue.
  • Perform FEA analysis.
  • Develop prototypes with mechanical prototype lab.

Specific Job Requirements

  • With minimal management direction, works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Experience developing, sustaining, and cost reducing of products for manufacturing
  • Seasoned knowledge of manufacturing requirements and demonstrated ability to incorporate those requirements into design
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills; flexible, self-directed and able to work in a team environment both as a leader and a follower
  • Ability to collaborate with global teams
  • Travel to China required to coordinate designs with factory, to verify production line, and product

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering with a minimum 3 years as a mechanical or design engineer (manufacturing experience preferred)
  • Experience in the use of CAD tools for design and documentation. Proficient with Solid Works software and experience with ANSY 14.5 dimensioning.
  • Candidate must be proficient in mechanical design, stress analysis, material selection and mechanical drive system design.
  • Working knowledge of FEA.
  • Working knowledge of engineering materials (plastics and metals)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing fabrication processes used to build a wide variety of parts and assemblies
