Summary:

Performs Process Engineering duties in the analysis, planning, and control of the manufacturing process for the production of pulp and paper products. Performs engineering work related to the operation of chemical plant equipment and processes. Maintains and operates chemical production equipment such as condensers, absorption and evaporation towers, columns and stills. Coordinates maintenance and operation of chemical production equipment such as mixing, crushing, heat transfer, distillation, oxidation, hydrogenation and polymerization.


JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Under close supervision, researches the design of plant equipment and processes for the production of pulp and paper.
  • Assists in designs and plans routine layouts and may oversee personnel engaged in operating chemical processes on a commercial scale.
  • Assist in conducting studies and coordinating effluent treatment projects, and air quality studies.
  • Provide support for process improvement projects. Projects involve chemicals, mechanical improvements, support for on machine trials and investigations of new technologies.
  • Drive best practices in safe operations and ensure the safety of all operations, maintenance and staff personnel.
  • Needs to be self-starter, be self-directed, take initiative to move forward with ideas, be committed and be able to work with and influence others.
  • Must learn quickly to analyze data.
  • Conduct tests to evaluate potential process changes.
  • Research process equipment, including: obtaining quotes, coordinating product trials, and making recommendations for purchase.
  • Assist in writing standard operating procedures and training manuals.
  • Provide engineering support to other departments as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Supports mill and department goals in safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost, productivity, and continuous improvement.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Pulp and Paper Science.
  • Prior experience may include internships, co-op assignments, summer jobs, and volunteer work, leadership roles in student or college-affiliated organizations, full-time or part-time positions.
  • Work experience related to field of study is desirable.
  • Prior full-time experience in engineering is considered but not required.
  • Advanced Degree considered but not required.

SPECIFIC SKILLS:

  • Proven record of identifying opportunities and the ability to recommend and implement improvements.
  • Must be a leader with exceptional communication skills, good organization, and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Previous environmental experience in the Pulp and Paper industry is a plus.
  • Demonstrated initiative, intellectual curiosity, strong problem-solving skills, success managing multiple priorities, an affinity for working in a manufacturing operations environment, and working well in a team under deadline pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal communications such as recommending, directing, and influencing.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem-solving skills

Pay Range: $73,200.00 - $97,600.00
