Project Engineer (Motor Vehicle Manufacturing)

We have an exciting opportunity available for a talented Design Engineer to join our team in Montpelier, OH.
- Oversee the management of multiple projects using the APQP methodology.
- Coordinate and lead internal APQP meetings involving cross-functional teams.
- Act as the main point of contact for customers, including designers, product design engineers, mating component engineers, test engineers, and engineering supervisors.
- Gather and establish customer requirements and expectations, such as interchangeability, service requirements, performance requirements, weight requirements, and homologation requirements.
- Define part parameters for oscillation (kinematic requirements), road load (dynamic requirements), and orientation (static requirements).
- Perform weight analysis using solid modeling tools such as Catia, NX, or Inventor.
- Conduct stress analysis using classical or FEA methods (Linear Static, Nonlinear, and Fatigue) with software like Catia, Autodesk Simulation Mechanical, or Inventor.
- Create 2D and 3D layout drawings in the appropriate CAD system for customers (Catia or NX).
- Develop 3D solid models using Catia, NX, or Inventor.
- Prepare 2D assembly drawings using software like Catia, NX, AutoCAD, or Inventor.
- Generate 2D detail drawings using Catia, NX, AutoCAD, or Inventor.
- Perform tolerance stack-ups.
- Specify materials for the design.
- Collaborate with customers to address any campaign-related issues.
- Solve warranty-related issues efficiently.
- Create test specifications and develop the Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) as required by the customer.
- Develop product Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
- Review product Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) with Manufacturing Engineers.
- Establish early sourcing agreements as necessary.
- Develop project timelines and plans using Gantt Charts.
- Support research and development activities as needed.
- Review and approve drawings for accuracy and compliance.
- Utilize the 8D methodology for effective problem-solving.
- Conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) when required.
- Thoroughly review and adhere to Customer Specific Requirements.
- Consistently strive for continuous improvement and consider risk before making decisions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or a related field such as Automotive Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in the field (open to new graduates and individuals with less than 5 years' experience).
- Salary will be commensurate with experience.
