Scientist I/II, Medicinal Chemistry

Overview:

We are looking for a creative, resourceful, and highly collaborative scientist to join our medicinal chemistry team. A successful candidate will have a strong track record in cutting edge synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry, with a demonstrated ability to create novel and sound scientific hypotheses.


Detailed Description:

The Scientist, Medicinal Chemistry, will work in an interdisciplinary program in drug discovery research, and will conduct all aspects of the design and preparation of new chemical entities for biological testing.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry to prepare new compounds for biological evaluation.
  • Design and implement medicinal chemistry strategies to optimize lead compounds and advance them through the drug discovery process.
  • Effectively communicate project updates, results, and strategies to project teams.
  • Effectively collaborate within the medicinal chemistry team and with other functional groups.
  • Participate in the scientific community by contributing to publications, conference presentations and contributions to other external collaborations.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience with emphasis on experimental synthetic organic chemistry. Pharmaceutical industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • The specific position level will be determined based on candidate’s education, experience and qualifications. The Scientist I position requires a relevant Ph.D, or equivalent combination of education and experience. The Scientist II role requires a relevant Ph.D. and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The ability to solve problems using modern chemical and biochemical principles and laboratory techniques in the field of organic chemistry; expertise in solving problems in the preparation and isolation of organic compounds.
  • Demonstrated abilities in the use of instrumental and laboratory techniques such as TLC, NMR, IR, MS, HPLC and flash chromatography are required.
  • Experience in working on both small (as little as 1 mg.) and large (up to 100 g.) scale, and in the use of air-sensitive reagents under inert atmosphere, is preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including proficiency with related computer applications (Microsoft Word and PowerPoint; chemical drawing software).
  • The ability to work effectively with others to solve problems in a timely way.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $130,000-155,000 annually. This salary range is an estimate and may vary based on the Company’s compensation practices.
