Sr. Research Specialist II
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sr. Research Specialist II. Under minimal supervision, this experienced Sr. Research Specialist II will be managing a modern neuroscience research lab with 12-15 lab members, various state-of-art equipment, and numerous invaluable transgenic mouse lines. This individual will make intellectual contributions in a specialized scientific lab and have extensive knowledge of research and how laboratory organizations satisfy research goals and objectives. This individual will also conduct neuroscience research experiments both in collaboration with other members of the research group and independently.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Basic responsibilities will include managing a 12-15-member lab: ordering lab supplies; maintaining lab equipment and service contracts; lab material shipments; preparing lab inspection; maintaining cell lines, etc.
- Maintain transgenic mouse lines and genotyping includes designing new PCR protocols to screen new lines, DNA, and PCR genotyping.
- Assist PI to write and amend animal protocols.
- Identify and select best options for experimental design, data collection, and interpretation based on literature review, technical training, advanced knowledge/understanding of activity, and collaboration with customers.
- Refine or adapt methodologies to fit research objectives. Advise investigators on experimental design and research methods.
- In collaboration with PIs will make decisions regarding research projects that may require assessment, revision of objectives, or altering scientific direction.
- Perform miscellaneous laboratory related duties as assigned.
- Perform and analyze experiments, both collaborative and independently, directed toward the scientific goals relating to mammalian visual system development and function.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, ability to exercise professional judgment and good written and oral communication skills is required.
- The position may require flexible working hours to meet laboratory demands.
- Advanced practical knowledge of molecular biology and cell biology techniques; mouse genetics, genotyping and husbandry; light-level microscopy and image analysis; rodent survival and non-survival surgical techniques.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
- Six year's experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.
- Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. Degree in Neuroscience Research or a related field.
- Experience for lab managing, mouse colony managing, and cell culture.

Starting Salary Range: $64,600 - $113,300 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
