job summary:

Substation Physical Design Engineer opportunity that can be located in this client's Atlanta, GA or Charlotte, NC office. This position will be responsible for providing full project life cycle substation physical engineering and technical design and support as part of a Transmission Substation engineering and design team. Relocation assistance is available.

responsibilities:

  • Provide technical competency and direction on complex engineering and technical problems for projects including a wide range of utility substation projects, battery energy storage systems and solar collector substations
  • Create and improve processes for substation physical design project scopes, estimates, budgets, and schedules for substation projects
  • Create QA/QC checklists to improve physical designs for utility stations through 500kV
  • Be a SME in the installation requirements of high voltage transformers, group operated disconnect switches, breakers, PTs, CCVTs, line turners, surge arresters, and other equipment within the substation
  • Create grounding studies and designs
  • Create written specifications and implement them on engineering drawings
  • Visit sites, advise on physical engineering issues, and modify designs to solve issues during construction
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical preferred
  • Approximately 8 or more years experience with 6 or more years of experience directly within substation design
  • Professional Engineer license
