Application Engineer


Objective:

Engineering personnel who interfaces with customers to successfully employ NORMA Group’s products on customer applications and provide necessary technical product support.


Primary Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Consults with customer regarding timeline and milestone and ensures that project scope is properly defined.
  • Acquires and understands customer’s specifications and consults and negotiates with customers to ensure specification is practical and reasonable for NORMA given our expertise and experience. In addition, ensures that mating product requirements are properly established to ensure success of NORMA products.
  • Consults with Product Engineers to develop initial NORMA concept considering customer’s specifications, requirements, wants, needs, technical risk, NORMA strategy, competitive positioning, intellectual property, etc.
  • Reviews and advises on design.
  • Reviews and advises on test reporting.
  • Provides input into Product Development projects. Identifies customer-based product development, VA/VE, design-to-costs needs, and submits project requests to VP of BD EJT.
  • Promote NORMA solutions with material provided by Product Engineering and Marketing.
  • Participates in internal reviews to communicate voice of customer and ensure project is on-track to meeting customer technical and timeline requirements.
  • Advises marketing on promotional material.
  • Advises Product Engineering on product documentation.
  • Regular reporting as required by the role and/or management.
  • Assists in troubleshooting customer product application issues to develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Follows and implements the NORMA values and targets as defined by the Group processes, including the Group Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Travel – Less than 15%

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related Engineering degree
  • 5 years of experience preferred.
  • Injection mold, tube extrusion and flex system experience heavily preferred


Computer Skills:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software including; Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, Access, Internet Explorer, and PowerPoint.
  • Parametric CAD experience preferred.
  • Windchill or other PDM software experience preferred.
  • Planview, Minitab or JMP experience preferred.


Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Project Management experience
  • Design of Experiments
  • Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance per ASME Y14.5
  • Statistical Analysis
  • Simulated Durability Testing
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • VA/VE experience preferred

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position may require the use of personal protective equipment.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
