Position Overview

Responsible for the conception, specification, procurement, implementation and testing of automation and equipment solutions. This role requires working with multidisciplinary teams to develop, deploy and test automation and equipment that improve efficiency, enhance quality, reduce waste, reduce human intervention, and ensure safe operations.


What you'll do

Identify Automation and Equipment Opportunities

  • Collaborate with Process Engineering teams to evaluate processes, process data (efficiencies, cycle times. etc) and best practices across multiple sites and products.
  • Evaluate processes and equipment for opportunities to improve efficiency, cycle time, quality, scrap rates and safety.

Develop Automation and Equipment Solutions

  • Collaborate with Process Engineering, Maintenance and Operations to develop detailed scope, specifications and requirements for automation & equipment needs.
  • Research potential suppliers and strategic partners for automation & equipment needs.
  • Lead collaboration efforts with internal and external engineering teams to brainstorm the best possible solutions to meet automation & equipment projects needs.
  • Develop automation & equipment proposals, working closely with Process Engineering, Operations and Finance to develop strong business cases.

Implement Automation and Equipment Solutions

  • Develop and document thorough test plans for both FAT and onsite testing of automation systems and equipment that ensure they meet specifications and system requirements.
  • Work closely with site Process Engineers, Maintenance and Operations personnel to develop training, standard work, maintenance and spare parts plans to support start-up of new equipment.
  • Collaborate with IT, Shopfloor, Process Engineering and Operations teams to develop system, integration and data collection requirements for automation and equipment projects.

Project Management

  • Develop project plans, budgets and timelines for all active projects. Continually update project documents and effectively communicate project status to key stakeholders.
  • Gain alignment with Engineering leadership on priorities. Effectively manage your time and resources to keep priority projects and key tasks on time and on budget.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay updated with emerging technologies in automation and with equipment technologies that are commonly used in our processes.
  • Create opportunities to learn Hunter Douglas products and processes across all product families, brands and facility locations.


Who you are

An employee in this position, upon appointment, should have the equivalent of the following:

  • Education and Experience includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Systems, Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or similar Engineering Degree. Previous work experience (3+ years) implementing automation in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Expert knowledge of automation systems, manufacturing principles and project management.
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical machinery design, robotics and industrial control systems
  • Solid knowledge of system integration, SCADA, data collection and data acquisition systems, IT/network integration
  • Solid knowledge of computer use and software such as CAD design software, project management software, Windows, MS Office, Google Suite.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills,
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work with cross functional teams, vendors, and clients.
  • Ability to lead teams, facilitate meetings, evaluate project status and make sound decisions and adjustments.
