Fremont, CA

Tesla participates in the E-Verify Program

What to Expect As an Analysis Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development and manufacturing of next generation Tesla products. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing and optimizing the performance of revolutionary vehicle battery cell, battery pack designs. You will be brilliant both technically as an individual, and as an active member in a diverse and challenging cross-functional team environment. You will work with vehicle engineering teams, battery cell team, battery module and battery pack team to analyze the performance of future cell and pack designs and with Test Engineering teams to develop tests, correlate simulation models and improve the predictive capability of Analysis Engineering at Tesla. As a member of CAE team, you will work on multi-scale problems that starts from modeling battery electrode active coating particles to assembled cell and to assembled pack and eventually to full vehicle, with a full integration that helps to evaluate a small change in cell on its impacts on full vehicle performance, such as underside abuse when vehicle run over road debris.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop of state of art finite element (FE) models of cell, pack, and vehicle sub-systems to the finest detail
  • Characterization of battery related materials and development of advanced material models for CAE simulations
  • Perform advanced CAE simulations to evaluate and enhance understanding the behavior of the cell, pack, and vehicle sub-systems around battery pack under both static and dynamic events
  • Supporting design progression and evolution with multi-disciplinary engineering teams based on your analyses
  • Develop and apply advanced methodologies with smart analysis techniques to drive innovation into Tesla products
  • Perform post-test reviews and corroborate the CAE predictions to test results
  • Perform analyses for feasibility of manufacturing, assembly, and service processes

What You’ll Bring

  • 3 + years of relevant experience
  • Detailed and applied knowledge of Finite Element Analysis, Applied Solid Mechanics
  • Material Science and Numerical Methods in a product development environment
  • Detailed and applied software experience in CAE pre-processors, solvers, and post- processors in a product development environment. ANSA, PRIMER, LS-DYNA, Abaqus, HyperWorks and META preferred. Additional experience in ANSYS-FLUENT, STAR CCM+ is beneficial
  • Preferred experience in stand-alone or coupled analysis of battery system for structural, thermal, fluid mechanics and electro-magnetism
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with teams on problems that are challenging to solve and requiring innovative solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to deconstruct complex test scenarios with good logic and analysis, root-causing and resolving correlation issues
  • Demonstrated ability in iterative and collaborative engineering environments – success in roles requiring high levels of technical communication and interpretation of analytical results to design engineers and technical leadership
