We are looking for a Cost Engineer who will support the Direct Global Procurement team by developing advanced Should-Cost Models, analytical tools and systems to ensure we can make first principles-based decision on spend. This role will provide exposure and opportunities to collaborate with a wide range of business functions including Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Design and Finance. We are looking for those people who can deliver results and who find ways to raise the bar every day all at Tesla speed. What You’ll Do

  • Develop ground up based Should Cost Models within a commodity, across several different manufacturing processes and product sets
  • Understand manufacturing processes and related CapEx, tooling, labor, raw material costs and other inputs needed to manufacture components that drive cost
  • Create databases and systems to be able to track cost and spend data, at both the CapEx and component level
  • Develop and track program spend and report outwards regarding budget status
  • Work cross-functionally with Program Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Finance
  • Standardize reporting of cost down initiatives between Engineering and Finance
  • Ensure cost down projects have resources appropriately allocated and are meeting timelines dictated by Program Management; identify trends in current costing to help inform current and future design decisions

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering, evidence of experience and exceptional ability, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain management, or commodity management
  • Technical and commercial understanding of tooling and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with mechanical engineering concepts related to the commodity and ability to generate bottom-up should costs based on the understanding of manufacturing process
  • Proficient knowledge of technical requirements and design of the product and be able to influence cross functional partners with detailed analysis that supports optimized pricing and product sourcing decisions
  • Excellent negotiator, collaborator, and communicator

Expected Compensation

$64,000 - $216,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits


Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
