Pexco Aerospace, a major plastics manufacturing company, is looking for a "hands-on" Product Design Engineer to join our innovative team. This Product Design Engineer will have the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of Pexco’s next-generation aerospace products and enhance the current product portfolio. The successful candidate will be able to work with team members and use their expertise to bring a product to its realization. These efforts will enable rapid concept development and design iterations leading to successful technology transfer into manufacturing.

Partner with our sales team and customers to provide unique solutions to industry problems. This includes designing products and the associated tooling and processes to ensure high-quality and efficient and effective manufacturing.



Major Functional Areas:

  • Design tooling for manufacturing processes. (Extrusion, injection molding, fabricated part fixturing, etc.)
  • Support the BOM & router revision process within our ERP/MRP system.
  • Create manufacturing drawings from customer-supplied documents.
  • Provide regular project status updates to Engineering leadership.
  • Perform tasks to aid in the PMA process.
  • Actively define, research, and implement new technologies and best practices to advance extrusion, injection molding, CNC machining, subtractive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, and rapid tooling.
  • Recommend acquisition or development of additional tools, software, and equipment.
  • Work directly with customers to define design needs.
  • Collaborate with internal experts to brainstorm and conceptualize products and processes.
  • Conduct necessary testing to validate project results.
  • Review the Results and Document Test Outcomes.
  • Internal Process Knowledge – Protect company intellectual property
  • Review, research and prepare engineering aspects of new quotes within our ERP system.
  • Perform engineering aspects of the parts design process; this includes appropriate planning with development personnel.
  • Supports other departments in their engineering needs.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of product quality issues and equipment or tooling failures.
  • Work with suppliers for materials, technologies, and tooling & equipment.
  • Work within a cross-functional team to continually improve our products and processes. Collect and analyze data to aid the continual improvement process.
  • Communicate and address observed risks and opportunities promptly.
  • Work with the research and development team to turn concepts and ideas into reality.

Qualifications and Expectations

  • Education – Bachelor of Science Degree in a relevant engineering field preferred.
  • A team player; maintaining a productive and professional manner.
  • Strong documentation and organization skills.
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written) and relationship management skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software.
  • Proficiency in 2D & 3D CAD (preferably AutoDesk (AutoCAD), Catia, SolidWorks) preferred.
  • Understanding of polymer and metal materials along with extrusion, and the injection molding process preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in utilizing various tooling/injection molding/extrusion techniques for product development preferred.
  • Manage assignments in accordance with project prioritization.
