Position Overview

Design Engineer creates code-compliant, structurally-sound, and aesthetically pleasing tensile shade structures using CAD tools and information gathered within a fast-paced and cross-functional team environment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop custom fabric and steel shade structures from conceptual design to production as part of a cross-functional development team including concept, detailed design engineering, calculations report, 3D CAD modeling, and support of manufacturing.
  • Familiar with the structural design and detailing of concrete and steel.
  • Prepare and present design concepts using detailed 3D models and design drawings of shade structures to the appropriate approval teams including customers and building permits.
  • Partake in continuous improvement initiatives to refine existing designs, streamline processes, and incorporate feedback from previous projects.
  • Collaborate with construction & installation teams to address and resolve post-installation concerns.
  • Address design-related customer concerns including field issues.
  • Other duties as assigned


Education, Experience and Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering preferred or equivalent
  • Proficient use of AutoCAD/SolidWorks to prepare 3D CAD models, drawings, and other documentation as needed
  • Prefer experience in steel fabrication, weldment design, foundation systems and building codes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong conceptual skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate project management skills, proven ability to manage projects to timely completion.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent attendance record.


Company Information and Disclaimer

Working Conditions: Normal office environment setting or may be exposed to noise if working in or around a production area. Schedule is Monday through Friday, normal business hours. Constantly required to sit, use hands, talk, and hear. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Position Location: Position is onsite Monday through Friday (8AM-5PM) and not remote eligible. Only under special circumstance(s) will the person be allowed to work remotely and with express written consent of senior leadership.

Compensation: Compensation for this position will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications, aligning with industry standards. The salary range for Dallas, TX, is also based upon geographical market standards for the industry and position in those areas. There is a possibility of a bonus(es) based on individual performance and merit to be paid at the sole discretion of the company, but bonus(es) are not guaranteed unless outlined in writing in the offer letter extended to the candidate selected for the position.
