POSITION SUMMARY:

Associated Materials is looking for a creative packaging engineer to designs packaging to optimize quality, performance, sustainability and cost that protect our products and support the varied solutions required in the different distribution channels meet the needs of our customers.

The teammate would work in the design engineering team located at our corporate offices in Cuyahoga Falls, OH.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Document work instructions ensuring standard packaging methodology for parts & accessories utilizing best practice procedures for the AM products.
  • Assist in identifying and qualifying technology providers / vendors to support AM packaging needs.
  • Develop packaging specifications for AM products to support all distribution channels in a manner that optimizes quality performance and cost.
  • Oversee and manage complete packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, performance testing and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required.
  • Create and update Bills of Materials (BOM's) to support current designs, new designs, and modifications to designs.
  • Other areas of product design and support may be included as project work dictates the need.
  • Collaborate, as needed, with cross-functional teams (i.e. Marketing, Operations, Quality, Regulatory, etc.) in pre-commercial and commercial activities.
  • Reviews current designs to develop new or improved design concepts. Prior experience using programs such as Solidworks to create, modify and approve engineering drawings.
  • Prepares appropriate documentation required to test and execute implementation of the design; may assist in testing process.
  • Reviews all alternatives for cost-effective designs.
  • Review designs to effectively develop BOM's
  • Develop and maintain BOM's suitable for Manufacturing and Material Planning.
  • Develop costing BOM's to be used by Finance Department for establishing product costs.
  • Modify BOM's as part of Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process as needed.
  • Other activities as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Mechanical Engineer Degree preferred; or Associates degree in a technical engineering trade or equivalent
  • 2+ yrs of experience preferred
  • AutoCAD, SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software
  • Industry experience a plus
  • Experience and working knowledge of test equipment a plus
  • Familiar with ITSA standards
  • Architectural experience a plus
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes of various industries including corrugate, extrusion a plus
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement and structured problem solving methodologies utilizing Lean and SixSigma tools
  • Knowledge of MS Office software, including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective working relationships with peers, subordinates, superiors and vendors/service providers.
  • Strong collaboration skills in team settings, working groups, and committees, both as a team player as well as a leader.
  • Travel based on project work and need (typically up to 25% travel)
