Job Summary:

PIC Group is in need of a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Power Delivery and Electrical design to work for one of the world’s most respected design, engineering, and project management consultancies. The Power Delivery and Electrical Design SME will have the opportunity to work on infrastructure planning, engineering, construction, environmental consulting, urban planning, architecture, and program management services to for power and renewable projects in the Northeast, Southeast, or Texas. The Power Delivery and Electrical Design SME is a trusted advisor for clients, EPC’s, utilities, and independent power producers (IPP’S) coaching and supervising junior engineers, presenting at power industry events, and developing reports to drive the direction of the project.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and validate complex software models in PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP, and Cyme.
  • Advisor for clients on high level interconnection strategy
  • Coach and supervise younger engineers starting out in the field.
  • Support Client utilities in their system expansion and interconnection studies.
  • Attend and present at Power Industry events and conferences.
  • Support substation physical design, protection and control system design and studies (grounding, lightning, insulation coordination, bus studies, load calculations, ampacity sizing of electrical equipment, arc flash, short circuit, selective coordination, and harmonic analysis)
  • Prepare/review/validate technical reports and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update power system models and databases.
  • Contribute to the development and verification of technical reference information and system requirements.
  • Lead one-on-one and team sessions with peers, colleagues, partners, and customers that highlight Electrical Engineering objectives, issues, and their resolution.
  • Deep Electrical design and code compliance understanding, electrical calculation standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, and ANSI) and customer experience knowledge.
  • Leadership and capacity to foster collaboration toward a common goal.
  • Lead a range of mechanical engineering activities associated with delivering successful solutions to our clients in the food and beverage, biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical industries, and specialty chemical industries.
  • Work directly with clients to define project requirements and deliver appropriate solutions to meet the stated needs based on a defined budget and schedule. This work is done in conjunction with members of other disciplines.
  • Verify the correct implementation of the systems as designed and compliance with applicable standards (e.g. cGMPs) during the execution phase.
  • Execute projects varying in size with a focus on projects of larger scope and/or higher technical complexity.
  • Ensure the quality of design documents.
  • Develop junior engineers.
  • Reinforce an atmosphere of safety and a commitment to design excellence.


Job Requirements:

  • Ability to review and validate complex software models in PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP, and Cyme.

  • Ability to prepare/review/validate technical reports and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development and verification of technical reference information and system requirements.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and computational skills.
  • Extensive understanding of power systems, renewable integration, and electrification challenges.
  • Extensive understanding of FACTS.
  • Ability to lead one-on-one and team sessions with peers, colleagues, partners, and customers that highlight Electrical Engineering objectives, issues, and their resolution.
  • Extensive knowledge in electrical design and code compliance understanding, electrical calculation standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, and ANSI) and customer experience knowledge.
  • Leadership and capacity to foster collaboration toward a common goal.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers.
  • Experienced in facilities management service delivery with specialist knowledge in Electrical systems.
  • In-depth experience with using power system software packages (e.g., PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP).


Physical Requirements:

  • Office environment with travel to customer sites as required.
  • While on site, may require protective equipment (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, etc.)


Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Power Engineering with strong background in power system analysis is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.
  • MS. Or Ph.D. in the field of power system analysis is preferred.
  • Industry association membership (e.g., IEEE) with committee chair and associated technical paper development is preferred.
